CLUB PROGRAMS

EDUCATION & CAREER PROGRAMS

Power Hour- This educational enhancement program helps participants complete homework assignments, both paper and online, and credit is given for every completed assignment. Copies of the participants report cards are made so grades can be monitored.
Junior Staff- This program focuses on assisting the staff with various programs, activities, jobs and tasks throughout the Boys and Girls Club. This includes work in the office and the snack-bar and greeting parents.

CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

Torch Club-A chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life.

Youth of the Year-Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is BGCA’s premier recognition program for Club members, promoting service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability.

Terrific Kids a member-recognition program run with the Holland Kiwanis that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. 
“Terrific” is an acronym for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable. 


HEALTH & LIFE SKILLS

SMART Girls-  Program designed to help girls navigate the sometimes difficult path through pre-adolescence and adolescence.  It allows for a positive transition by providinginformation on relevant topics.  We will discuss such topics as positive self-esteem, healthy lifestyles & social issues
Healthy Habits: A Triple Play Program- Designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being.
Passport to Manhood- Promotes and teaches responsibility to male Club members in grades 6 & up. Passport to Manhood represents a targeted effort to engage these members in discussions and activities that reinforce positive behaviors. 
SMART Moves- The SMART Moves (Skills Mastery And Resistance Training) prevention/education program addresses problems of drug/alcohol use and premature sexual activity. Based on proven techniques, the program uses a team approach involving Club staff, peer leaders, parents and community representatives. More than simply emphasizing a Say No message, the program involves young people ages 7-15 in discussion and role-playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and analyzing media and peer influence. The ultimate goal: to promote abstinence from substance abuse and adolescent sexual involvement through the practice of responsible behavior.

THE ARTS

INSTAGRAM CLUB- Take pictures of what interests you around the Club and post them to the Club's Instagram account. 
ImageMakers Photography Contest- Club wide photography contest where members get to submit photos for judging. 

SPORTS, FITNESS & RECREATION

Triple Play: A Game Plan for Mind, Body & Soul- Triple Play, a comprehensive health and wellness program, strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-18 by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.
